Opportunities
At Wilson Elementary School, students and families have many opportunities to be involved and learn outside of the school day. We offer many evening activities for families as well as after-school programs and clubs for students.
Great Start Conferences
This event is held at the end of August to welcome new families to school and welcome back those who are returning. It is a good way to touch base with teachers and staff and to bring in school supplies to "lighten the backpack" for the first day of school. Busing information is also available.
Pop Tops for Cancer Camp
For more than 10 years, Wilson School students have helped to raise money for children with cancer simply by saving pop tops from aluminum cans. The money raised from collecting and recycling these pop tops is sent to Children's Oncology Services in Chicago. Through their "Camp One Step" summer camp, located on beautiful Lake Geneva in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, children with cancer have the opportunity to enjoy a fun summer camp experience with other kids who face similar challenges. This is an ongoing service project, so please continue to save your aluminum pop tops and ask your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same. Drop them in the collection barrel in our front foyer or send them along to school with your child at any time. This is another great example of how Wilson's students live the 4>2 way.
Safety Patrol
The Safety Patrol is a group of fifth-graders committed to providing a safe school environment for all students at Wilson Elementary, both before and after school. Students are trained to help younger students stay safe in the front parking lot before and after school. Please keep your eye out for these students as they do their important work.
WeeDeliver
Every two years, during the month of February, Wilson Elementary School is transformed into a small city with its own post office. Students write letters to other students, which are then stamped and delivered within the building. What a fun way to learn about letter writing while brightening someone else's day. This letter-writing program has become a tradition that we all look forward to at Wilson.
KidStop Childcare
KidStop Childcare is designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The KidStop community partnership meets the needs of families by providing a safe and affordable place for students before and after school. At Wilson Elementary, before- and after-school childcare is provided by the Recreation Department. Registration for KidStop is open throughout the school year and can be done online here or by contacting the Recreation Department at 920-459-3773.
Student Council
The Student Council is composed of 4th- and 5th-grade students, whose primary role is to organize, plan, and coordinate school fundraising events, school functions, and special school activities. Students in 4th grade are able to serve as class representatives. Students in 5th grade have the opportunity to serve as class representatives or run for positions such as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and media specialist. Meetings are held twice a month during the students' lunchtime.
PBIS
What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. PBIS is about teaching and promoting safe, respectful, and responsible behaviors. Students are recognized for making positive choices that follow our school expectations. When students do not follow expectations, they are re-taught the appropriate behavior and, when necessary, are given an Office Discipline Referral (ODR).
Youth-Tutoring-Youth (YTY)
Youth-Tutoring-Youth is a program that provides high school students with an opportunity to give direct tutoring assistance to elementary classrooms under the guidance of a supervising and coordinating teacher. Tutoring occurs in one-on-one, small-group, or whole-group settings. High School students typically work with students for one semester.
